Municipality not taking development noise problem seriously

Regarding the reporting of Robert Barron in the Citizen on Oct. 7, it is apparent that the municipality does not take this noise situation seriously.

It is disingenuous of the mayor to imply that this soil compacting noise is just part of regular house construction. This level of noise disturbance would only occur in the extreme situationi of your neighbour driving pilings for a multi-storey structure.

The municipality is sayint that the noise bylaws permit this level of noise disruption seven days a week, starting at 7 a.m. every day except Sunday. If that is accurate, then the noise bylaws should be changed — they are not carved in stone.

The soil compacting underway now involves 74 lots of a potential 1,300 lot subdivision. At this rate we could be enduring in excess of 10 more summers of significant noise disruption.

The developer may be saving money by thisn method of compacting soil, but it is at the expense of nearby residents, in particular those with young families, shift workers, people working from home, housebound individuals etc. We are entitled to quiet and peaceful enjoyment of our homes.
