Mixed messages on Hydro use

Letter to BC Hydro

Dear sirs:

You lecture us to reduce power consumption, then punish us by increasing rates because reduced consumption cuts into your profits.

You hector us to convert from oil and gas heating to heat pumps and baseboard heating, then complain about increased energy use.

You admonish us to delay things, such as laundry to later hours as if we do not work all day, then have to prepare family dinner, after which, we have but one or two hours to relax before heading to bed, yet you, Hydro, want us to spend this time doing laundry!

To boot: you can’t even guarantee that — especially in the middle of winter — we won’t lose power: to heat and cook, never mind laundry, for multi-hours at a time.

What alternate reality do you live in?

Sorry, but I will keep my natural gas fireplace and cook range until you pry it from my cold dead hands.

B. Simmons
