Lack of Town Crier diminished July 1 event

A modern Town Crier not only informs the public but helps structure events into logical progressions.

In the past years on July 1 I presided over the cake cutting ceremony by introducing the two supervising hostesses, recognized the cake donor sponsor, lead a strong rendition of ‘O Canada’ and facilitated the cake cutting by the newest and youngest Canadian.

Alas, my services were declined this year and the day took on a lacklustre air. Could we not have had an uplifting ceremony by having a Ukranian family, welcomed to cut the cake in their new found peace in our country?

July 1 is our national day of recognition where all celebrate a successful country. Our economic and social success, in spite of two world wars and a depression also include a well developed, ever responsive, social safety net. Our grandparents would be amazed at our progressive development.

Our future lies in front of us, not behind.
