Forced into the military? Not in Canada

I was disgusted with Robert Barron’s column in your last edition. Yes, I was first disgusted by the fact that some person or people had thrown away the wreaths recently laid at the cenotaph by the Legion, in honour of the Queen.

But I was even more disgusted at his last paragraphs that suggested that “if they are caught, they should be forced to join the Canadian Armed Forces and sent to the first available war zone.” Do we have a fascist in our midst? An admirer of Mr. Putin, perhaps?

Yes, if caught, they should be punished to the full extent of the law. But thank God, in this country, forcibly making people join the army and sending them to a war zone is not part of the law…like it is in Russia. Get a grip, Robert!
