Everyone who ran in election should be proud
Now that all the hype is over, signs are slowly disappearing and everyone is starting to settle back into their lives, I want to take a second to say thank you to everyone that put their name forward to run in this election. It is not easy, to put yourself out there for people to judge and ridicule…people that don’t actually know anything about you.
To those of you that didn’t make it this time, be proud of getting involved. I’m sure you brought awareness to people who might not have otherwise voted or started conversations that needed starting. You put yourself out there which is more than most people can say.
I lost a very public job that was very important to me once and it took me close to two years before I didn’t feel it weighing heavily on my shoulders. I was embarrassed to show my face and I doubted who I was for a long time. I’m sure some of you might be feeling this way — you just ran a very public campaign and everyone knows you weren’t elected.
Take the time you need to heal and get back out in the community and find other ways to stay involved. Don’t forget, you put yourself out there and that takes courage. I believe that everything happens for a reason, so you might not have won because you are destined for something else. Best of luck to each of you, and don’t forget to be kind to yourself!
