Eliminating town crier makes world more bland

I agree with Sharon Jackson, “Shame on Duncan council for getting rid of Town Crier”. It seems there is a certain sector of society and government that want to make us, and our world, all the same; bland, dull, uniform and characterless. Finding offence around every corner, and in every aspect of life.

That “colonial past” decried by Mayor Staples has been instrumental in making Canada one of the best, most respected, democracies in the world. It has been adapted — for example the RCMP — to make it uniquely Canadian and something we can be proud of. Should we get rid of the RCMP ceremonial uniform too because of its ties to our colonial past?

No country or system of government is without flaws, but uniqueness from all cultures should be celebrated and not vilified. It’s what makes life interesting. It’s why we travel. Or used to.
