Letter: Don’t drop your litter

Don’t drop your litter

Dear citizens of North Cowichan:

We appreciate you coming to Duncan for all of your shopping needs. We would like to remind you to pick up your waste along the way.

For a long time, some citizens have consistently blamed the “homeless” population for the waste and litter problems in and around the Cowichan Valley. However, I just went on a bike ride today to find litter along the entire route from Bell Mckinnon and Herd Road all the way to Lakes. People experiencing homelessness don’t typically drive so who could it be?

Some of us are littering on Herd Road while traveling back to their cozy, clean homes nestled within the majestic lands of North Cowichan? We are guests on Quw’utsun land. Please be respectful! If you know of anyone littering, please remind them that they should dispose of their trash in an appropriate manner. Many thanks!
