Damage in Ukraine will take years to rebuild
While the Russian invasion of Ukraine has caused many deaths and much suffering to people which have been well documented, and rightly so, there is another aspect to this incursion that doesn’t seem to get any consideration.
I am referring to the terrible damage being done to the infrastructure of that country by Russian artillery strikes. This seemingly random shelling has damaged many buildings with no military connection such as apartments and even hospitals and schools. These are structures that will take years to replace when this conflict is over and will be massive projects.
Hopefully the international community will aid in the rebuilding effort.
On a related subject, I am totally disgusted with how the oil companies take advantage of any dispute in the world to further price-gouge us for gas. The events in Ukraine obviously have no effect on our gas supply. The oil companies have been getting away with this type of consumer abuse for too long. Unfortunately, the way gas is taxed provides a huge windfall for our governments so they just ignore the problem. Unless gas prices fall soon we will all be paying more for all the goods we buy every day, as transportation costs will be passed on to everything we buy.
