I knew when it was mentioned that it would cause a stir. But several years ago a safe and secure use of spent nuclear was engineered and tested.
They are smaller generators, don’t use heavy water which is difficult and costly to produce but use a salt solution which is stored above the reactor and is automatically released when power is removed from the valve above the reactor.
These reactors use spent uranium, and I don’t know how long it lasts but the U.S. has enough buried to produce enough electricity to supply all of North America for 750 years!
This system deserves a decent look for installation everywhere.
