Bylaw officers in Duncan well paid

In a recent column on City of Duncan bylaw officers, Robert Barron states, “I don’t know how much these people get paid, but whatever it is, I don’t think its enough to deal with the complexities and challenges of the job.”

On Jan. 1, 2020 the hourly rates of pay was $25.47 for a bylaw officer 1, $28.65 for a bylaw officer 2, and $33.11 for a bylaw officer 3.

The City of Duncan just signed a new contract with the CUPE union, for the period of Jan. 1, 2021 to Jan. 1, 2024. The new rates of pay have not been posted yet, but in the past signed contracts, the yearly pay raise has been two per cent. If the new contract follows the past agreements, a bylaw officer 1 would be paid $27.57 in 2024, a bylaw officer 2, $30.94, and a bylaw officer 3, $35.76.

From the view of the City of Duncan taxpayers, these rates of pay are sufficient for the jobs being done by the bylaw officers.

If Robert Barron does not agree with these rates of pay, he needs to have his head examined.

Unbelievable!
