39 Days of July the best medicine

The gifts and joy provided by the 39 Days of July music festival are far reaching in our diverse and eclectic community and beyond.

As such, some of the special highlights that occurred on Day 18, Monday, July 11, have inspired me to share with your readers. At 1 p.m., long time friends Chuck McCandless and Bill Hamilton, who have honed their musical skills from their formative years when they made music together in Winnipeg, performed a set which featured folk music from that era.

The last performers of the day, Cherry Bank Hotel, formed a musical bubble during COVID, and developed their skills and united in friendship, prepared for the days when people could gather once again and celebrate life through a musical experience. Just prior to the start of their 7 p.m. performance I observed an acquaintance sitting in the row behind our seats, who had prepared a homemade picnic for elders in her family to enjoy while taking in the performance. After their meal they got up and danced.

These moments of kindness and generosity in a setting where hundreds of performances provided by musicians who have advanced and refined their skills are abundant and the stories that will be shared as a result of this remarkable festival will live on.

Please refer to the “Thank You’s for 2022” in the 39 Days of July Calendar to acknowledge all of those who have supported Longevity John Falkner in this amazing and awe inspiring feat.
