Let’s not pit young against old

Re: “Young people acting like ‘covidiots’”, (Citizen, March 26)

Let us not create more generation divides between such famous rivalries as the Millennials vs Boomers and single one group out for irresponsible behaviour. Yet I must offer a retort to Mr. Wallis and say it has been my observation in the past week as I patrol parks and neighbourhoods as a peace officer that the giant RVs headed down the road, the cars parked at parks, the people waking three and four abreast inches apart — have mostly been silver haired folk.

I know silver and grey hair is popular among the youth these days but the twinkly smiles, canes, and outdated fashion give away the actual age of these person(s) breaking the tenets of social distancing.

Please, let’s not see the world through ageist eyes. Moreso we should see to educating each other and supporting one another in this crisis. Leave the ageism behind. Also, the name calling of “covidiot” could be replaced with a more community compassionate “unaware” or “misinformed”. Be the informer. Be the one who makes people aware instead.
