Leave MacAdam, heartily support field house at Sportsplex

I and my family heartily agree with those letter writers who are writing in favour of maintaining the natural (and off-leash) space in McAdam Park. The “paving -aradise” quote from Joni Mitchell was superb, right on.

I DO on the other hand heartily support our assistance in funding for the Sportsplex field house. One of the reasons I love paying my taxes is the recreational infrastructure they provide for us and our children and grandchildren. This is an investment in the future and not an expense, just as are our expenditures on the public education system.

I would ask those who oppose projects like this in our climate whether they also oppose our funding for indoor pools and skating rinks?

I had the opportunity to use such a field house when I lived in Edmonton in the late ’70s to early ’80s. In addition to the track for runners and joggers the house was used for many indoor activities such as tennis, field events, and other gaming and sporting events.

For the young it provides a healthy outlet for year round activities and for SENIORS, of which I’m now one, it provides another place to keep active when weather discourages outdoor activity…and this provides long term payback for our healthcare system.

If I NEVER use it I will still gleefully support its funding from my taxes.
