CVRD parks staff superb

I would like to say a big thank you to the director of the CVRD Parks and Rec. for his response to a phone call from me.

Early last week I was walking in the Mill Bay Nature Park when I noticed that the second step down on a flight of about 10 steps had begun to rot and had slid out of its holding position. This was difficult to see at first as it was fairly well covered in large maple leaves. On returning home I left a message at the CVRD office as I did not want anyone placing a foot on the riser and then having a bad fall. I quickly had a message left by the director for me thanking me for for letting him know and that he was on his way to take a look.

Later that day I was back in the park with my dog and noticed that the rotten step had been removed, the earth between the two risers had been flattened out and caution tapes were tied to each side of the step area. Back in the park again the next day the step had been totally replaced, all the walking trails blown of leaves, and several trees that had come down in the strong winds had been trimmed back from the trails.

It is a nature park and the leaves look lovely, but it is hard for walkers to see the protruding rocks and tree roots underneath. I was very grateful as a lot of elderly people, including myself, walk in that area, and the quick response made it much safer for us.
