COVID is revealing racism in the community

In support of Mayor Al Siebring’s response to COVID racsim:

I’m soooooo done with blame! I’m soooooo done with violence and hate and ignorant narcissistic “poor-me-I’m-a-victim” white privilege! Not unlike the president-incited-violence on Capitol Hill last week this racism in the Cowichan Valley is being revealed. COVID is showing us what already exists in our community! COVID isn’t the threat. RACISM is the threat! RACISM is the virus!

COVID did not create a lack of patience, intolerance, frustration or short fuses. We choose our emotional responses to others! COVID didn’t create racism. Some Cowichan Valley residents are using COVID as an excuse to vent vile racism. Don’t be a bystander! Stand up! Speak out! Shut it down!

Hands up to the transparent, courageous, accountable, true visible leadership of Chief Seymour, the First Nations Health Authority and mayors Al Siebring and Michelle Staples.

Stop blaming! Recognize that patient zero — the one we’re all searching for to blame for this pandemic, doesn’t exist. We are all patient zero! Each and every one of us contributes to the global catastrophes of pandemics and climate change and environmental degradation and human exploitation and greed through our fear that there isn’t enough to go around and it’s a dog-eat-dog world and our abject denial of our privilege-based belief systems. And our abject refusal to sit mindfully with our emotions and take responsibility for how we feel and look for our own inner root causes of our own emotional disturbances!

Look in the mirror! It’s a scary invitation, but self-reflection and a fierce personal moral inventory is our only way out of the pandemic of our denial-based human beingness.
