Changing all words with ‘man’ in them?

I saw the story of the Navy changing “seaman” to “sailor”. When will this stop?

I joined the Navy back in 1969 and was trained as a “storesman” and worked my way up to the rank of “leading seaman” before I left. At some point, my position was changed to “supply technician”. The public could not understand what that position entailed and one had to explain what you did.

It seems that “man” in a word has to be eliminated. There are thousands of words that begin and end with “man”. Are they all to be changed?

Two words are being overlooked: woman and female. I would like to see when someone is going to have the light bulb come on and decide these need to change also. How far will it go and who will make the decision?

For a time waster, think of how all those “man” words would look and sound like.

Now I need to give my mandolin a new name before I use it again. Perhaps Fancy Slicer.

Oh well. Just have to live with the lunacy and throw out all the books because they don’t conform to the new age.
