Celebrating Cowichan Lake area heroes

They don’t have Spider-Man’s spider sense, or Batman’s neat gizmos, but Cowichan Lake’s volunteer firefighters are super heroes none the less.

They don’t have Spider-Man’s spider sense, or Batman’s neat gizmos, but Cowichan Lake’s volunteer firefighters are super heroes none the less.

They’re literally life-savers; going out to medical calls, motor vehicle incidents, fires, and other potentially fatal incidents throughout the Cowichan Lake area.

It make sense, then, that we honour them during Fire Prevention Week, in a similar manner to honouring soldiers during Remembrance Day.

Police officers deserve a similar such honour, as they’re also saving lives. Either through pulling over drunk drivers, breaking up assaults, or arresting someone in the process of committing a crime, they’re also life-savers.

It takes a special kind of person to walk into a situation wherein they might get shot, or to walk into a burning building that has the potential to collapse upon you; all to save someone that person might not even know.

They deserve a big thank you. Whether they’ve helped you or not, or will in the future, they’re unfailingly there should something bad happen to you, or someone you care about.
