Bicycles should be insured and licensed

Bikes should be licensed.

In a letter to the editor published Jan. 22, Peter Lake states “a bicycle (even with motor up to 500 watts) does not need a licence or insurance.”

The letter second after that is a thanks from Charlotte Lang who was run over and knocked down by a bicyclist who didn’t stay to see if she needed assistance. Peter Lake states that insurance isn’t needed “because damage inflicted to a vehicle by 110kg of bike and rider is relatively trivial so driver pays.” He does not address the injuries that a pedestrian could incur. Possibly life changing injuries.

Bicycles should be insured!
