An Island Santa — poem

An Island Santa’s different

An Island Santa

An Island Santa’s different

He’s not led by Rudolph’s nose

‘Cause he travels on the water

Whichever way he goes

So a lighthouse shows the way

From its perch upon a rock

And Santa mans his tugboat

Toward a floating dock

His sacks are filled with treasures

Of every shape and kind

They’re stacked upon a little barge

He tows so close behind

This Santa wears a wetsuit

Beneath his yellow slicker

He listens for the foghorn

‘Cause the mist is getting thicker

He has to row a dinghy

To all the inlet places

Wild animals and rapids

Are the dangers that he faces

He skirts around an Orca pod

Then hears the native drumming

‘Cause all the coastal villages

Know Santa will be coming

When he spies a giant fir

With an eagle’s nest on top

He knows he’ll soon be heading home

Since he’s reached his final drop

Each house receives a photo book

Of places where he’s been

And the cover shows a sweet old man

Who wears a merry grin
