Sarah Elizabeth (Betty) Cooper

October 11, 2005

On October 11, our beloved mother /grandmother/great grandmother/friend surrendered her year long battle with cancer and passed away peacefully in her sleep at Cowichan District Hospital. Predeceased by her 1st and 2nd husbands, Betty will be remembered as a very vibrant and loving woman by her son and daughter Kenneth Cooper and Kathy Mackie, grandchildren Gina Cooper, Dean Mueller, Jennifer Cooper, Allison Cooper, great grandchildren Hailey Cooper and Wyatt Cooper, step great grandchildren Douglas, Cale and Kirsten Mackie, sister Peggy Hancock, and her family and many beloved friends. Betty lived a very fulfilled joyful life... born and raised in Nanaimo, BC she owned her first hair salon at only 18yrs old and was a talented hairstylist and respected business owner until she retired in 1986. She then became an avid gardener, active member of her Seniors’ Centre, taught Seniors’ Ladies Country Line Dancing and performed with “her girls” all over Vancouver Island; her late husband, Harold Cooper and her were honoured with a “Citizens of the Year” award in Lake Cowichan for 1990. Betty also helped decorate floats for the “Lady of the Lake” Pageants and escorted the pageant winners on yearly parades and events. Betty leaves a legacy to her family of her strength of character, her integrity, sincerity, her vibrant spirit and great sense of humour. We will miss her deeply and we give thanks to her for all of the love that she held for each one of us. There will be two separate events held in honour of Betty’s life...a memorial service at the Baptist Church 8259 Beaver Road, Lake Cowichan, on Sunday, October 23, 2005 at 11:00 a.m., and a “Country Theme” Social at the Lake Cowichan Seniors’ Center from 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.

A special thank you to Dr. Kerswell and the

CDH Nursing staff.
