Lyle George McKenzie
March 13, 1939- March 5,2004
After a long and courageous battle with cancer, Lyle gently passed away at Cowichan District Hospital in Duncan. His memory will be survived by his family. Betty, his wife of 42 years, children Robin (Pam), Dale, Heather, and Jason, and granddaughter Jennifer. Lyle’s remembrance will also be in his sister’s heart Donna (Terry) Gregson and their families. Lyle’s remembrance is survived by his half brother Dale (Vilma) Delmage and their family. Also remembered by Mae McKenzie and families, Lyle had a special fondness for his Aunty Beatrice and Aunty Shirley. Predeceased by Howard and Florence Delmage of Youbou, and George Wren McKenzie of Delta B.C.
Born in Vancouver B.C., Lyle grew up in Youbou and joined the Air Force in his late teens.. He was stationed at Greenwood, Nova Scotia as a flight electrician for the Argus Aircraft. Shortly after arriving in Greenwood, Lyle would meet his future bride and stay married to her for 42 years. In 1964 Lyle would move his family back to Youbou, and take a job as a millwright in the Youbou sawmill. Lyle loved to fish, hunt, and made many friends in the Cowichan Valley. Some of his fondest times were playing bridge, cribbage, and pool with the guys at the Cowichan District Seniors Centre.
Special thanks to Dr. Toth and the nursing staff on the second floor of Cowichan District Hospital for showing great kindness to Lyle during the last few weeks of his life. An extra special thanks to Eric and Jenette Lundgren for being such great friends to Lyle and his family. Lyle will be loved, cherished, but greatly and deeply missed.
God saw you getting tired when a cure was not to be
So he closed his arms around you and whispered “Come to me”
You didn’t deserve what you went through, so he gave you rest.
God’s garden must be beautiful - He only takes the best.
And when we saw you sleeping so peacefully and free from pain
We could not wish you back again to suffer that again
