April 19, 1938 - October 26, 2018
We are sad to say our father, husband & Papa, Lloyd Allan Matson, has passed away peacefully in his 81st year. Our Dad was a quiet man. He was a gentle Viking who showed nothing but dignity, class, patience and common sense throughout his life. Lloyd never made a complaint while battling 32 years of Parkinson's disease. Lloyd was the first born to Ellis & Ragna Matson, in Canwood Saskatchewan. He leaves his childhood sweetheart and wife of 59 years, Arlene (nee Johnson), his daughter Lonnie (Lance Syme) and his son Garry Matson (Charlette). He will be sadly missed by his special granddaughters Lindsay (Roger Ketch), Katie (Gary Hui), Jorden Matson and Grace Matson; and his four great grandchildren, Makenna, Kaleb, Colby & Cali who brought him many hours of joy and smiles. Lloyd is survived by his sisters, Evelyn Langtry (the late Mike Langtry), Betty Matson and Bernice (Jim Jubenville), his brother-in-law and best friend Ted Johnson (Ethel) and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Lloyd was predeceased by his mother-in-law & father-in-law Matz & Violet Johnson.

Lloyd was a heavy duty mechanic by trade. He began his career at Harris Creek in Port Renfrew and later had a 36 year career with School District 69 in Lake Cowichan. He was a "Jack of all trades" and he spent many years working on his love of cars, especially VW's, from vans to bugs; and his special pride and joy, his 1932 Ford, which he always brought out for special occasion drives.

Dad showed us many wonderful adventures growing up, from having summer cabins and boats on Cowichan Lake, taking us to BC Lions games, to camping in our 70's Volkswagen van on Long Beach and touring throughout BC in the 70's. Lloyd loved all sports and played basketball and baseball through his high school years in Lake Cowichan. He even played a bit of hockey in his later years, he was a true Montreal Canadian fan!

The family sends a special thank you to Dr. Dan Phillippson for his care and compassion over the past 32 years with Dad. Thank you to all of the staff and all of our friends at Sunridge Care Home, including Dina, Sally, Rosie, Megan, Shannon & Amy. Thanks to musician Andy McCormick and to Anna Marie who made the music nights so special! Many thanks to our friends, relatives and co-workers for being there on this journey with us for so many years.

A private family service will be held at a later date.

Flowers are gratefully declined, however donations to the Parkinson Society BC, 600-890 West Pender Street, Vancouver, BC V6C 1J9 would be appreciated.

Rest Easy Now Dad! Oh How We Will Miss You!
