Lillian CASTLEY

June 12, 2008

January 14, 1918 - June 12, 2008 at Cowichan District Hospital.

Lillian graduated from the School of Nursing in 1940 at Royal Jubilee Hospital, Victoria, B.C. and spent all of her working life taking care of others. In 1945she served in the armed forces assisting wounded soldiers who were on their return home. She was Matron of Chemainus Hospital for many years and finished her nursing career working at a senior’s home in Victoria.  Upon retiring she returned to reside in Lake Cowichan where she was raised.  Her retirement residence was across the river from her father’s original fish hatchery. Lillian will be remembered for her feisty spirit, sense of humour and her love of family. 

The Castleys’ and Evans’ are long time pioneer families in the Duncan and Lake Cowichan area.

She was predeceased by her father, Jack, her mother Esther (Evans) Castley, brothers Allan, Kenneth, and Steadman, her sisters Vivian Erickson and Renee All.  She was also predeceased by her nephews Gordon Castley, Leon Erickson,and Tom Castley.

Survived by  nieces Barbara Gray, Calgary, Alberta, Frances (Frank) Makaoff, Grand Forks, B.C., Suzanne (Derek) Ferguson, Campbell River., Karen (Terry)Kirk, Victoria,  Corey (Jack) MacKay, Lake Cowichan,  and nephews Michael(Kitty) All, Lions Bay,  and Peter Castley, Victoria.
