June Isobel (Eckert) Olson

December 16, 2006

With her loving family by her side, June Isobel Olson

(Eckert) passed away on December 16, 2006. Born on June 21, 1927 to Anderson (Jake) Eckert and Margaret MacDonald. She was predeceased by her parents, her brothers (Neil, Bud, and Alvin) and her sister Bird (Bertha). Mum was 3 months old when she and her family moved to Lake Cowichan, where she would live the rest of her life. She was an active member of her community and loved living there. Some of the organizations she belonged to where the Lake Cowichan Scandinavian Club, Curling Club, Bowling Association and the I.W.A. Women’s Auxiliary. Mum also participated in many Lake Days events and especially enjoyed decorating the floats and being part of the Centennial Road Show. She was a remarkable woman who enjoyed feeding her large extended family (always serving “nothing fancy”). She will always be remembered for her chocolate chip and pepperkaker cookies, Nanaimo bars, awesome apple pies and Sunday roast beef dinners. Mum loved camping on the many beaches of the “lake” (Freeke Creek, Avis Beach and University Point) and she lived life to the fullest. She remained friends with many of the people who had camped at the Castaway Resort.

Mum also had a great love for music and dancing especially in the moonlight with Dad. The biggest pride and joy in Mum's life were her children, grandchildren and her great grandchildren. This extended to many of their friends who adopted “Grandma June” as theirs too! We know they will miss their daily visits with her and will have many memories of scavenger hunts, bocce games, bubble blowing and crafts (glitter). Her endless supply of treats including chocolate milk and revels for breakfast will surely be missed. Mum is survived by her ever loving husband Nels, son Terry, daughters Colleen Olson (Dennis LaForge), Jody (Richard) Friday, and Becky (Stan) Bennett, grandchildren Larissa (Kirk) Nelson, Per-Olof (Jesyka) Ehrstien, Jill (Adam) Walters, Hailey Friday (Shane Bergman), Katelyn and Jocelyn Bennett. Also, her great grandchildren Connor, Kierce, Elise, Kaden, Jake, Chloe and Richard. She also leaves behind brother in law George (Kay) Olson and family and special niece and nephew Bonnie (Bon Ton) Willey and Kelly (Prince Charlie) Lowe and families. Mum had many nieces and nephews and special friends that she loved dearly. Our family would also like to extend a very heartfelt thank you to Dr. Dave Froese for his special care of our Mum. Also thank you to the Home Care nurses for their dedication to Mum's care. We have been so lucky to have this amazing woman in our lives and would like to thank everyone who enjoyed the journey of her life along the way. A memorial service will be held at the Lake Cowichan Centennial Hall on Saturday December 30th, 2006 at 12:00 noon.

Death ends a life, not a relationship.

 Aloha Mum

You’ll always be with us
