John Stetsko

December 29, 2006

Born in Northern Valley, Alberta. One of nine children born to Nick and Anna Stetsko of Elk Point, Alberta. Predeceased by his beloved second wife Muriel of Castlegar, BC in 1997; his parents; brother Mike (Evelyn); sisters Marie Henschel and Jessie Kuziw of Alberta. Survived by brother George Stecko (André) of Courtney, BC; sisters Leila Schields of Edmonton, AB, Nancy Foisy of Lumby, BC, Pauline James of Duncan, BC, and Catherine Wiechnik of Consort, AB; daughters Gail Christiansen (Wiktor) of Lake Cowichan, and Lorena Lamont (Al) of Cobble Hill, BC; sons Keith (Jill) of Crescent Valley, BC, Bryon (Aina) of Oliver, BC, Digby (Joan) of Victoria and their mother Myrna Haggard of Lake Cowichan; step-daughter Bev (Harley Perrin) of Castlegar, BC; step-sons Don Danchella (Wendy) of Fruitvale, BC, Frank Danchella of Castlegar, Gord Danchella (Leslie) of Victoria, BC; 25 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He loved them all and they loved him in return. Dad moved to Lake Cowichan in 1945 from the farm in Alberta, looking for a more secure future for his family. He was a logger for 13 years, then turned to heavy construction. He worked on the Crofton, Port Alberni, Castlegar and Kitimat pulp mills and numerous bridges and snow sheds in BC. Dad moved to Castlegar in 1959 to be closer to his work, there he met and married Muriel and gained four more children. Dad returned to Lake Cowichan in May 2005 to live with Gail and Wiktor. Dad always said he'd lived a long and good life. One of Dad's proudest moments was catching a 60lb. Chinook salmon up in the Queen Charlottes in June 1991 with son Digby, to become a member of "The Master Fisherman Club of BC" and an "Official member of the North American Fishing Club." Dad was tired and ready to go to sleep to await the resurrection promised in Gods word the Bible at John 5:28,29. He longed for the promises in Psalms 37:10,11 and Revelation 21:1-4 where sickness and death will be no more and the earth and all mankind will once again be as Jehovah God originally intended.
