After a brief courageous battle with cancer, Joan passed away peacefully at home on March 28, 2006 surrounded by loved ones. Joan is survived by her husband, Harold; beloved son Wayne and daughter-in-law Julie; cherished grandchildren Kelsey and Tyler; sisters Kay Krausert, Jean Pals (twin), Margaret (Kenny) Loesch, Patricia Krausert, Betty Krausert; and in-laws Alfred (Joyce) Friesen, Ken (Linda) Friesen, Lorne (Lorraine) Friesen, Ron (Margaret) Friesen, Larry Friesen; many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her brother Bruce Krausert and her Father and Mother, Fred and Effie Krausert. Joan was born in Strome, Alberta on January 25, 1927. She moved to BC with her twin sister Jean at the age of 17 where she did her teacher training. Joan was a teacher in the Lake Cowichan area for 35 years, then retired and moved to Chemainus in 1989 with her husband. Joan was a gracious and strong woman full of pride. She gave generously and unconditionally. Her retirement days were filled with volunteer work ranging from delivering “Meals on Wheels”, giving communion to the sick, and planting and maintaining the colourful and lush garden at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church where she was an active member. Joan loved to entertain (was a fabulous cook!), spend time with her family and many friends and oh, how she loved to walk! All that knew her have been forever touched by her compassion for others, her strong faith, and her endless gift of giving. Peace be with you, beloved wife, mother,
grandmother and friend. May you be at rest in the arms of God and may you continue your cherished walks in the gardens of heaven.
The family would like to say a special thank you to Dr. Archdekin, the team from Cowichan Home Support, Kay, Frances and Betty, and those close friends who provided the support
necessary to grant Mom’s wish to stay
at home. Service was held on Saturday, April 1, 2006 at 1:00 pm at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Chemainus.
