Riches, Irene Louisa (nee Hughes) Born in Alton Dist. on June 6, 1917 to Sarah (nee Alderton) and William Hughes of Blacknest, England.
Irene passed away on February 21, 2011 in Ladysmith B.C., in her 94th year surrounded by her family. Irene is survived by her loving daughters, Joan Ann McKay (David), Joy Louise Jones and Vicki Lorraine McNeill, whom she lived with over the last 17 years. She loved her five grandchildren and eight great grandchildren dearly. She was predeceased by her loving husband Frederick Alexander Riches. Irene’s family was the centre of her world – a world of fun, exploration and adventure in which she used all her God given gifts to the fullest. At the age of 90, Irene was recognized during a celebration in her honor as the oldest camper at the Cameron Lake Resort and at that time was still paddling a canoe.
A celebration of Irene’s full and rich life will be held on April 9th, 2011 at 11am at St. John’s Anglican Church, 314 Buller St., Ladysmith. A reception will follow at 12:30 pm at the Ladysmith Yacht Club, 12335 Rocky Creek Rd.
