George Pohn

George Pohn Jr, loving husband of Darlene and father of Danielle, passed away on June 24, at Foothills Hospital of Calgary as a result of a motor vehicle accident which occurred on May 31, 2007.

George was born on July 6, 1954 in Vocklabruck, Austria and immigrated to the Lethbridge area with his family at the age of 2. As a young child he excelled at riflery and enjoyed many outdoor activities with his father. He graduated from CCH and attended SAIT for his sheet metal ticket. In 1981 he began working at Mountain Minerals, of Lethbridge, and spent the last year of his life working with them again in Calgary. Very good friends from the office Malcolm and Chris spent much time in hospital by his side.

George will be remembered by all for his wild motorcycle days and unusual sense of humor. One of his favorite pastimes was reading and he liked nothing better than to read and relax at the cabin at the lake near Leask, SK. Gardening was another hobby of his, as well as relaxing and doing nothing. An art he had perfected. For 6 years George and Darlene ran a Seniors home in Honeymoon Bay. He enjoyed this time and could not wait to return for retirement. Because of his love of reading his eyes have been donated to the Lion’s Eye Bank. This donation will give 8 other people the gift of sight.

Besides his wife and daughter George is survived by his parents George Sr and Gertrude Pohn, sisters Rose (John MacDonald) and Veronica (Pat Kuntz), brother Peter (Nancy) and sisters-in-law Betty Sanddar, Judy (Randy) Wankel and

Mary-Lynne Weberg.

A memorial service was held at Generations Funeral Home, Lethbridge, Alberta, Tuesday July 3. In lieu of flowers, tributes in George’s memory can be made to S.T.A.R.S., 1441 Aviation Park NE, Box 570, Calgary T2E 8M7
