March 15, 1916 – April 4, 2009

Florence passed away in peace at Cowichan Lodge, her home for the past seven years, at the age of 93. Tom and Florence had recently celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary and her family marked her Birthday on March 15th with a get together at the Lodge.

With her passing, Florence leaves behind her husband Tom, daughter Wendy, son Don (Mary) and sister Audrey French (John); grandchildren: Merilee (Dave), Christine (Glen), Jennifer and Stephen (Katy); great grandchildren: Tony, Bailey, Seth, Mayson, Mackenzie and Leah. Also, many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother, Bill Tembey in 1960.

Born in Nanaimo, Florence married Tom in 1939. They moved to Youbou where they bought a house with no electricity and an outside toilet. In 1942, they purchased three lots on North Shore Road in Lake Cowichan and built the home that Tom continues to live in today.

An active member of the community for many years, Florence was in the Kinnettes. She especially enjoyed her volunteer work at the Health Centre, where she took delight in weighing the babies in the Cowichan Lake area.

The family would like to thank the caring staff at Cowichan Lodge. We realize that Florence was very lucky to have lived the last years of her life at such a wonderful care home. Hopefully, the Lodge will continue to serve our community.

There will not be a service. Family will get together at a later date to remember Florence’s life.
