Edna Margaret Mackie

Passed away peacefully at Cairnsmore Place in Duncan, BC. Born in Colinton, Alberta. Edna Holmes married Charley Mackie in 1939, They moved to and lived in Youbou, BC for many years. They brought up two sons, and later moved to Duncan. Predeceased by her husband Charlie in 1983; brother Donald, and sister Eleanor. Survived by her loving sons Jim (Maria), and Jack (Sandy); sisters-in-law Gene Mackie in Edmonton, AB, and Jean Williams in Duncan; dear friends Joy Hayward in Colinton, Alberta, and Joan Larson on Salt Spring Island; and many nephews and nieces.

Edna and Charley enjoyed winter vacations in warm places until his death. Edna and her sister-in-law Jean Williams and dear friend Mary Newington took in many theatre plays and went south to enjoy trips to Reno. Over the years, Edna continued to drive to Youbou for activities and friendship at the Senior Centre, until her first stroke. Edna will be remembered by all, who knew her for her gentle, pleasant, and caring manner.

Our heartfelt thanks to Kris Kadgien and Jean Williams for all your caring help during Mom’s stay at Duncan Manor. Many thanks to the following: staff at Duncan Manor, Cowichan Lodge staff for your excellent care, Cowichan District Hospital nurses; and Doctors Sanders and McKenzie. Last but not least, staff at Cairnsmore Place for your professional, compassionate care, keeping mom comfortable to the end.

No service by request. A family gathering will be held at a later date. If you wish, donations may be made to our Health Care Facilities, to help our nursing staff continue to do their excellent work, or to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
