With sadness in our hearts we say goodbye to Axel Evert Olson, who passed away on June 3, 2019 in Duncan, BC. He was born February 29, 1932 near Canwood, Saskatchewan.
Axel is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law; Susan Rae and Ken Prosser, and Sandi and Peter Griffiths, his grandchildren; Kyle Prosser (Krista), Matthew Griffiths, Megan Prosser and Ryan Prosser, his sister, Yvonne (Pete) Elzinga and brother, Jack Olson as well as many cousins, nephews, nieces and great nephews and nieces.
Axel is predeceased by his parents, Helmer and Jennie (Eliason) Olson, his siblings; Aileen (Gordon) Kasperski, Kenneth (Esther), Donald, Ronald, and Brian (Donna) and a baby Matilda.
Axel spent his childhood in Park Valley, Saskatchewan. In his twenties he came to Vancouver Island with his father for work and the family soon joined them. Axel married Anna Hoeppner and they lived in Lytton, Vancouver and Port Renfrew before settling in the Sahtlam area of Duncan in the early 70's where they raised their daughters. Later he married Marjorie Unruh with whom he enjoyed his retirement years.
Axel worked in the logging industry, driving truck and building roads. He enjoyed building barns, sheds, gazebos and other woodworking projects as a hobby. He was a long-standing member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles here in Duncan.
Please join Axel's family in celebrating his life on Saturday, August 24th at 1 pm at the Eagles Hall, Duncan, BC.
We would like to thank the staff and residents of Sunridge Place for being a part of Axel's life this past three years. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Sunridge Place, Recreation Fund or to the Alzheimer Society of BC.
