A long time Cowichan Lake area resident, Art passed away in Cowichan District Hospital with his wife by his side. Born and raised at Grantham, (Merville) on Vancouver Island, Art was predeceased by his parents Tom and Elsie Beech, his first wife Eileen (Sprout), brother Oscar and sister Phyllis.
He is survived by his wife, Hazel of Lake Cowichan; son Stan (Donna) of Merville; step children Rolli Gunderson (Jack), Toni Davis (Reg), Ross W. Elves all of Lake Cowichan, Rik Elves (Launie) of Qualicum Beach; grandchildren: Diane Beech, Glen Beech (Robin), Jack 'Bub' Gunderson (Michelle), Michelle Davis (Trent Weir), Heidi and Amanda Davis, Jenny Elgert, Tracey Wall, Tanya Poulin (Rene), Jaci Elves (Glen Caloren), Jordan and Justine Elves; great grandchildren Kelvin and Rachel Beech, Jennifer and Brittany Teasdale, Chelsea Gunderson, Dyllan Wall, Alycia Caloren and Jenae Weir.
Art is also survived by his sisters, Vera, Gladys (John), Hazel, Kitty (Chuck) and brothers Fred (Maggie), Tom and sister in law, Mary; many nieces and nephews and many many good friends.
An informal gathering for family and friends will take place in the Lake Cowichan Royal Canadian Legion lower hall on Thursday, February 16 between 1-4 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Cairnsmore Place Renovation Fund,
