Alfonsas Jakovickas

Jakovickas, Alfonsas loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather passed away peacefully after a short but hard fought battle with cancer on October 12, 2005 surrounded by his loving family. Al was born in Vilnius, Lithuania on January 20, 1925. He studied electrical engineering at the University of Vilnius. After surviving the Second World War he immigrated to Ontario, Canada in 1947. He then moved to Vancouver, BC in 1948 where he met the beautiful love of his life, Maria. They were wed in 1951 in Vancouver. They moved to Lakeside Cabins near Lake Cowichan in 1953, which was the year Al began working at the BCFP sawmill in Youbou until his retirement in 1985. They became residents of Youbou in 1956, where they raised their 5 children. Al was an avid outdoorsman. His love of hunting and fishing was only surpassed by the love of his family, of which he was extremely proud. Predeceased by his father Josef and mother Emilia, oldest brother Stasys and twins Tony and Elena. Alfonsas is survived by his younger brother Bronius and younger sister Muritie both of Vilnius, Lithuania; his loving wife Maria (Kronstein) of Youbou, BC; son Joe (Mary) and their children Molly, Kyla, Tanya and Cassidy of Nelson, BC; daughter Wendy (Carmen) Rocco and their children Derek, Matthew, and Sabrina of Duncan, BC; daughter Maria (Jim) Brooks and their children Lindsay, Ashley, Brittany and Kirby of Mesachie Lake, BC; daughter Sonya Jakovickas and her children Ella and Sam of Victoria, BC; and daughter Rita Harden and her children Julie, Emily and Kelly of Coquitlam, BC. No service by request. Flowers gratefully declined. Donations in Al's memory may be made to the Victoria Hospice Society, 1952 Bay Street, Victoria, BC V8R 1J8.
