A Lake Cowichan resident is in stable condition at Cowichan District Hospital following an unusual incident on Highway 18 that left her seriously injured.
On Friday, RCMP in Lake Cowichan responded to a call from local Emergency Health Services after a 23-year-old woman reportedly fell from the passenger side of a moving vehicle traveling west about three kilometres outside of town. Detachment commander Sgt. Wes Olsen said the vehicle was moving between 80-100 km/h when witnesses saw the woman fall from the vehicle and roll down a 20-foot embankment off to one side of the highway.
“Police are investigating the nature of how the female happened to fall out of the vehicle,” he said. “There is no indication that any kind of foul play was involved … Drugs and alcohol are also deemed not to be involved.”
Police are not revealing the victim’s identity at this time.
