Crews across Vancouver Island are working to restore power.

More than 4,500 BC Hydro customers remain without power as of Friday morning because of the snow and freezing rain. That's down from the height of 18,000 customers earlier on Thursday. See outages map here.

The south island is seeing outages in Saanich, Victoria, Duncan, Ganges, View Royal, Langford, Lake Cowichan, North Cowichan, Highlands and Central Saanich. See the list here.

North and central island outages are affecting Bowser, Campbell River, Courtenay, Comox, Errington, Nanaimo, Port Alberni and Qualicum Beach.

Gulf Island outages have affected Galiano Island, Saturna Island and Ganges on Saltspring Island. See the list here.

"Crews and contractors will be working through the day as the storm develops. The safety of the public and our crews remains our top priority," BC Hydro said in a statement.

"Individual restoration times may vary and will be provided as they become available."
