Two people were treated for minor injuries and could be facing charges after a rollover crash on Highway 18 on Thursday, June 25.

A grey pickup truck towing a travel trailer crashed and rolled on the highway just east of Skutz Falls Road late in the morning.

Volunteer firefighters from the Lake Cowichan and Sahtlam halls were called to the scene, and traffic was detoured onto Cowichan Lake Road from Skutz Falls at the east end, and the Highway 18 Connector on the west end.

The investigation was still in its early stages when the Gazette spoke to police, but alcohol was suspected to be a factor.

B.C. RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Chris Manseau noted that drunk drivers don’t limit their activity to the evening hours.

“During the course of my career, I’ve encoutered people consuming alcohol and driving at all times of the day,” he said, reminding other drivers to be vigilant, regardless of the time of day.
