Two people were taken to hospital following an early-morning house fire Sunday on the Trans Canada Highway south of Mount Sicker Road near Westholme.

The extent of the injuries to the people transported to Cowichan District Hospital was undetermined.

Fire crews from the Chemainus and Crofton departments responded to the blaze around 4 a.m.

“They arrived to a fully involved house,” noted Martin Drakeley, Municipality of North Cowichan fire chief.

A second alarm was immediately called for additional support from the Maple Bay and South End fire departments.

“At this time we can’t comment on the cause or extent of the fire as the investigation is ongoing,” added Drakeley.
