The Cowichan Green Community is hosting FarmFolk CityFolk’s Mobile Seed Cleaner Tour on Aug. 23.

FarmFolk CityFolk, a not-for-profit society dedicated to strengthening B.C.’s sustainable food systems, has created a mobile-seed cleaner that will greatly assist seed farmers by streamlining the process of seed cleaning and is touring the province demonstrating its value.

The free demonstration of the seed, cleaner on Aug. 23, which will take place from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. on the grounds of the Cowichan Agricultural Seed Hub, will give local farmers and seed-saver enthusiasts the opportunity to see what equipment and methods are available for cleaning seed.

The event will feature a presentation by the Cowichan Green Community, a non-profit dedicated to increasing the sustainability and viability of the Cowichan region’s food system, a tour of the Incubator Seed Farm, seed cleaning demonstrations, and seed sales.

“Seed security is the basis of all food security and having access to a mobile seed cleaning unit will greatly increase the ability of local farmers to further their seed security by growing and processing their own seed,” said Kat Brust, supervisor of the Cowichan Agriculture Seed Hub.

“This partnership with FarmFolk CityFolk is an amazing opportunity for both our organizations to combine our efforts to further the cause. We are very excited that they’ve chosen Cowichan as one of their destinations on this mobile seed cleaner tour of B.C.”
