As the housing crisis continues, the Cowichan Housing Association is looking to utilize spare bedrooms that are empty in the region.

The CHA has partnered with Happipad Canada to create Happipad Cowichan, which is a platform with a mission to make these rooms available for rent at an affordable price for those in need of a place to call home.

Happipad Cowichan intends to be a leader in providing safe, secure, and affordable housing in the Cowichan Valley.

“Through background checks, legal contracts, compatibility matching and more, users are given a superior and more reliable room rental experience,” said Shelley Cook, the CHA’s executive director said in a news release.

“Homeowners benefit from additional monthly income, while renters benefit from housing that is within their budget in neighbourhoods they want to live in.

Cook said Happipad Cowichan is one tool in the CHA’s multi-pronged approach to adding to affordable housing inventory within the Cowichan region.

“This tool was developed at University of British Columbia and has demonstrated incredible success through prolonged market testing in B.C. and across Canada,” she said.

“Many large organizations are using this service to create secure, reliable housing for students and workers.”
