By mid-August, Sunfest 2019 will have come and gone but that doesn’t mean the action is over in Lake Cowichan. Organizers have the pedal to the metal these days, preparing for the Town of Lake Cowichan’s 75th Anniversary celebrations which run the weekend of Aug. 16 to 18.
It’ll be three days of honouring the past, present and the future of the Town of Lake Cowichan and everyone’s invited.
“Volunteers like Ross Forrest, Bob Day and Lynn Klein have been working all year long putting this big weekend together, raising funds, and working with our great community sponsors to bring a top-notch celebration to the Lake Cowichan’s 75th Anniversary weekend,” said 75th Anniversary board co-chair Loretta Puckrin. “Even now, they continue to add to an already full weekend of activities. We’re inviting Lake residents, the Island, and visiting guests to come to celebrate with us. Once you’re here, enjoy, celebrate, and discover why Lake Cowichan is ‘worth the drive.’”
It promises to be a party like no other with live bands, children’s entertainment, a pro logger sports competition, a slo-pitch tournament and more.

The Home Depot Kids Building Station, VIU’s new logging equipment simulator truck, an imagination market, food trucks, crafts, a cake baking competition and the Water Shed Pool Party to name some more.
And that’s not all.
“This is an event for the whole family, with something for everyone,” Puckrin explained. “We’ve included a ‘Field of Heroes’ to honor our emergency services heroes where you can check out, and in some cases even hop on board various emergency service vehicles.
“Everything from helicopters to ambulances, fire trucks to RCMP, plus Search and Rescue.
“We are also expecting a few vintage vehicles from various organizations that have served us in the past.”
Even then, that’s still not all, but you’ll have to see it to believe it.
“Not to give away all the surprises, all we’ll say now, is to plan to be here,” Puckrin said.
