Kehar Garry Sangha was denied bail in a Victoria courtroom on July 11.
Sangha, who has been in custody since his arrest in April, 2017, is charged with seven counts in relation to an incident in which a woman is alleged to have been held and beaten in a Cowichan Valley home over a three-day period.

The 54-year-old had applied for a review of his detention order, but his request for bail was denied in a short hearing.
He will be held in custody until his case goes to trial before the Supreme Court of B.C. in Duncan on Jan. 6, 2020.
Officers responded to a 911 call on April 11, 2017, in the Herd Road area and found a woman handcuffed and in need of medical assistance.
Sangha was taken into custody the next day. The charges against him include aggravated assault, assault with a weapon and unlawful confinement or imprisonment.
Sangha has chosen a trial by jury.
