All’s well that ends well for a man who encountered trouble on the Cowichan River on Christmas Eve.

Just before 3 p.m. Lake Cowichan RCMP officers were called to the 70-block of Gordon Road for a report of a man in a boat on the river. The boat was floating without any paddles or a motor.

The caller reported that boat was heading toward the rapids, RCMP said. Cowichan Search and Rescue were called to assist due to his precarious circumstances. Cowichan Search and Rescue routinely practices swift water rescues.

Their services weren’t needed, however, as the man was able to get himself out of the boat along Hudgrove Road on his own.
