One person sustained serious injuries in an accident on a Cowichan Valley backroad Tuesday night.

“BCEHS received a call to respond to a motor vehicle incident at 7:20 p.m. last night (July 19) between Duncan and Crofton at Escarpment Way and Osborne Bay Road,” noted Lesley Pritchard of B.C. Emergency Health Services communications.

“We dispatched one ground ambulance and one air ambulance and paramedics cared for one patient, who was flown to hospital in critical condition.”

North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP and Crofton Fire Department members were also on the scene.

It’s not known what caused the accident, but residents in the area report speed is a constant problem on that stretch of road, with drivers frequently travelling way above the posted limits.

Osborne Bay Road was closed in both directions for a time until the accident scene was cleared.
