North Cowichan has announced that masks are again mandatory in all indoor public spaces for people 12 years and older, including Municipal Hall, indoor recreation facilities, and other public and office spaces.
This reflects the latest provincial mandate on masks in order to help slow COVID-19 transmission, and to help prepare for the fall respiratory illness season.
In addition to the mask mandate, starting Sept. 13 proof of at least first dose vaccination status (and fully vaccinated by Oct. 24) must be presented to participate in some municipal meetings and recreational activities.
The BC Vaccine Card, the details of which the province is currently working out, as well as valid ID will be required to attend these activities.
North Cowichan is reviewing these new requirements and will have more details ahead of Sept. 13.
Events and activities subject to vaccination status will include gyms, pools and recreation facilities (not including youth recreational sport), indoor high-intensity group exercise, and indoor organized gatherings like weddings, parties, conferences, meetings and workshops.
Also included are public meetings, such as council and committee meetings, indoor organized group recreational classes and activities like pottery and art.

“This has also been a tremendous opportunity to expand how we serve our residents and businesses through new and improved online and virtual channels, things that we will continue well past the end of the pandemic.”
