All’s well that ends well when it comes to the case of the long lost friends.
Salinas California’s David Casas and Cowichan’s Darryl Alsbrook have been sent each other’s contact information and the friends are eagerly anticipating communicating without third party intervention.
“[I] would love to reach my old buddy David Casas,” wrote Alsbrook in an email replying to the Gazette’s Nov. 7 story entitled “Where is Darrly Alsbrook? Old buddy searching for his Lake Cowichan friend”. “It’s a joy to know we may connect soon.”

When given Alsbrook’s information, Casas was delighted.
“I will try to contact Darryl, and maybe try to plan a trip in the spring,” he said. “I would really like to see my old friend. It has been almost 55 years, but old memories get fresh as we get old.”
Casas knew he’d likely have some luck after reaching out to the local paper because it had worked once before.
A few years ago Casas saw Alsbrook’s photo in the paper. Alsbrook had been playing at a music event around Lake Cowichan. The two were friends in the 1960s and had lost touch so Casas asked the paper to help track him down.
“We were able to talk, as I reached his daughter who gave me his phone number,” Casas recalled. “I never made it up to B.C., as I planned, and since, have lost his phone number. If there is any way you could help me once again, I would be grateful.”
