Local Cowichan governments closing doors for Christmas

It’s not the most engaging information but it’ll prove useful in an emergency so cut it out and stick it to the side of your fridge just in case. Many of the area’s government organizations close over the holidays so if there’s an emergency, here’s who to call.

In Duncan: City Hall will be closing at 2 p.m. on Dec. 24 and will re-open on Jan. 2 for regular hours.

The City of Duncan’s public works department will also close at 2 p.m. on Dec. 24 and will remain closed through Dec. 26. Public works will also be closed on Jan. 1. for the statutory holiday.

Emergencies within the City of Duncan during those times can be directed to 250-746-7192.

Over at North Cowichan, Municipal Hall will be shut down as of 3 p.m. on Dec. 24 and then through Boxing Day. The hall will also be closed on Jan. 1, 2020. For situations that pose an immediate risk to property, public health, or safety, please call 250-746-5112.

The CVRD offices will be closed from 2 p.m. on Dec. 24 up to and including Jan. 1, 2020. Regular office hours will resume on Jan. 2.

Meanwhile over at School District 79, the school board office and transportation department will be closed to the public from Dec. 23 through to Jan. 5, 2020.

The operations department will be closed from Dec. 24 to Jan. 1, 2020 inclusive.
