During consultant Sue Plester’s second public meeting, Monday, March 7, about 30 people showed up to voice their input on what they’d like involved in a new elementary school in Lake Cowichan.
“The weather finally cooperated,” Plester wrote in an e-mail to the Gazette, citing the previous week’s meeting, which suffered a low turnout due to poor weather. “People appear to be in favour of the idea, in principle.”
This input is valuable, she said, as it will help in the report she’s been mandated with providing, on what community services locals would like involved in a new elementary school, in a Neighbourhood of Learning model.
“A Neighbourhood Learning Centre would see additional space added to the elementary school building to offer community services and / or adult learning opportunities,” Plester wrote.
Although the two public meetings have ended, those still interested in providing their input may still do so through a questionnaire, until the Thursday, March 31, deadline.
Questionnaires are available at the Town of Lake Cowichan’s Municipal Office at 39 South Shore Road, or online, at www.sd79.bc.ca.
The tentative location of the centre is the old AB Greenwell School site.
