It’s a vacation town through and through, but the laws still apply.

In a press release issued Monday, June 11, the Lake Cowichan RCMP report receiving “numerous complaints” in the past few months about gold carts being driven unlawfully on public roads and even the highway.

The complaints are being received from communities all around the lake.

“Travelling in vehicles not built for the roadways, and not capable of the posted speeds, not only puts the driver and passengers in the golf cart at risk, but everyone else on the roadway too,” said Const. David Prak of the Lake Cowichan RCMP. “The Lake Cowichan RCMP would like to remind everyone that any unlicensed vehicle, such as a golf cart, that is found to be driving on the roadway could face significant fines.”
