An 11-year-old Duncan girl and her family are getting a lot of support from the community after she was diagnosed with cancer this past weekend.
Madison Holman was rushed to BC Children’s Hospital on Saturday for emergency surgery, which was scheduled to take place this Wednesday following an MRI on Monday. Her mother, Robyn Bryson, has to take time off from her job as a health care aide at the Cowichan District Hospital to join her in Vancouver, while her father, Rylan Holman, is taking time off from his job in the logging industry to be at home with Madison’s siblings.
Family friend Tanisa Kellington has set up a GoFundMe campaign to help the family get through this difficult time.
“My goal is to try to raise enough money so that they don’t have to be worried about finances when they need their focus to be on getting Madison healthy,” Kellington explains on the GoFundMe page. “I know it’s not the greatest time to ask for help, considering there are so many people struggling right now, so if you can’t donate, I ask you to please just share this to your friends and family.”
Kellington says that Madison is in good spirits despite being on strong medication, and has been able to get outside with her sisters. She recently changed schools from Crofton Elementary to Alexander Elementary, and both schools have been supportive.
In addition to the GoFundMe campaign, donations will also be accepted at York Street Diner in Duncan, and a bottle drive is being organized.
