Fires set in garbage bins in Duncan’s Centennial Park

Police looking for public’s help in finding suspects

Police officers and the Duncan Fire Department responded to a report of several garbage bins on fire at Centennial Park at approximately 3:30 a.m. on Aug. 20.

When officers from the North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP detachment arrived on scene, they found two garbage bins and a bench smoldering and another garbage bin still on fire.

Firefighters were able to quickly extinguish the blazes.

The police want to speak with anyone who may have witnessed this incident, or has information that could assist with identifying the person or persons responsible for starting these fires.

“Our parks in the Cowichan Valley are here for everyone to use and enjoy and it is so disappointing to see them being damaged in this way. I hope we can find the person responsible for this,” said RCMP Const. David Grey.
